After Brunch at GBD (see previous post) a jump on the metro took my friend and I to the National Portrait Gallery. This Smithsonian Institution branch came highly recommended by my mother, who attended school in D.C. for seven years. It’s always a good rule of thumb to trust what your mother tells you and this was no exception. The National Portrait Gallery had a spectacular range of portraiture. Each room had its own unique color and was composed of a specific time time period. Covering all three floors of the museum was an insurmountable task but it leaves something to go back to down the road. My favorite section the Portrait Competition space. The amount of talent and creativity was mind boggling with incredible works of art in all mediums including: photography, installation, and videography.
